Afterlife Love Story: Choosing Light Where Darkness Looms

SCARLETT LEWIS: “I’m so very excited about this Afterlife TV episode with Scarlett Lewis, because there’s so many jewels to take away from it. Scarlett lost her six-year-old son, Jesse, in the Sandy Hook Elementary School Shooting in Newtown, CT. In spite of this horrifying tragedy, Scarlett’s story is filled with powerful after-death communications (ADCs) and signs of precognitive knowing (when someone subconsciously knows about their impending death).

“What’s even more amazing is that Scarlett Lewis learned how to choose thoughts of love instead of anger, hatred or fear, which she shares with us to use in our own lives. And only a short time after the shooting, Scarlett was able to forgive her son’s killer, and her example teaches us how to shed the burden of anger and hatred in order to find joy again following any tragedy. While the foundation of this story is sad, this Afterlife TV episode is both comforting and inspiring thanks to what Scarlett and Jesse Lewis have to teach us. You really don’t want to miss this special episode.” ~ Bob Olson, Afterlife TV

On December 14, 2012, Scarlett Lewis experienced something that no parent should ever have to endure: she lost her son Jesse in an act of unimaginable violence. The day started just like any other, but when a gunman opened fire at Sandy Hook Elementary School, Scarlett’s life changed forever. However, this isn’t a story about a massacre. It’s a story about love and survival. It’s about how to face the impossible, how to find courage when you think you have none, and how to choose love instead of anger, fear, or hatred.

Following Jesse’s death, Scarlett went on an unexpected journey, inspired by a simple three-word message he had scrawled on their kitchen chalkboard shortly before he died: Norurting Helin Love (Nurturing Healing Love). It was as if he knew just what his family would need in order to go on after this horrible tragedy. Bolstered by his words, Scarlett took her first step toward a new life. And with each step, it became clearer how true Jesse’s message was. She learned that love was indeed the essential element necessary to move forward and that taking the path of love is a choice. We can live in anger and resentment, or we can choose love and forgiveness.

With her decision made, she found some peace and began to believe that choosing love was the key to creating a healthy, safe, and happy world. She began the Jesse Lewis Choose Love Foundation to develop programs to teach children about the power each of us has to change our thoughts and choose a life without fear and hate. Nurturing Healing Love is Scarlett’s story of how choosing love is changing her life—and how it could change our world. A portion of the proceeds from sales of this book will be donated to the Jesse Lewis Choose Love Foundation.

  2. Grace says:

    Hi Bob,

The ADCs in this video were INCREDIBLE. I’ve seen most of your videos and I’ve never had goose bumps throughout the video like I did with this one!!! This story is amazing even though tragic, and I’m so glad you put this video out there for everyone to see. I wish all your videos were 90 mins long! LOL Scarlett is so articulate and such a great interviewee. I hope you can have her back for some more ADCs she didn’t include in this video.

    Love all your videos,

  3. Luis Mijares says:

Thank you Bob, I really enjoyed this interview, there is a lot to learn from it

  4. Robyn DeLong says:

Such an inspiring and healing interview. I, too, have learned to choose empowering, loving thoughts moment by moment as I walk my own journey after the death of my youngest son 7/25/13. I wrote my book, From Grief to Grace…A Mother’s Journey, with the guidance and nudging of my son from his side of the veil. Knowing he is forever with me, and sending me messages to keep us connected, has made all the difference. I wrote to you shortly after his death. You are a blessing. Thanks so much!

  5. Veronica Hill says:

Bob, you need to put on your headphones and listen to your interview with this on. On the minutes left 28:29 I can hear in the background a male voice that said, Mom. On 27:00 min I can hear the same voice saying Write to me. I can also hear him say, gee, um, laugh, At around 1:55 I hear him say All right Cookie then he laughs. So Bob I strongly urge you to put on your headset and listen to your interview.

  6. Chris Brown says:

Enjoyed this interview very much. Having experienced similar “happenings” after the loss of someone very dear to me I found her story to be very genuine. Her ability to morph this horrible tragedy into such a positive message is phenomenal! Must also applaud her for mentioning that her religious beliefs actually do co-habitate with her spiritual reality, which is not always the case. Excellent interview!!

  7. Amy says:

I am very curious about this interview, it is not captioned or subtitled. I am deaf, and I really would like to know what was said. A transcript would do just fine too, thanks!

    • Bob Olson says:

      Hi Amy,

There will be a transcript available next week. You’ll find the link to it right under the video when it’s available.

  8. Katie says:

Thank you for this incredible story. Life can have so much meaning even after the passing of a loved one. Throughout the interview I kept looking at the yellow stuffed duck, one of Jesse’s favorite toys, in the background. It was propped in such a way that it looked like it was leaning to look into the camera. I felt him so strongly through that duck!!! Thanks again for a wonderful interview!

  9. Anya Black says:

Yes! I was listening to the interview and I thought I heard a male voice. Ingesting that she says “message to me” and then you hear the voice!!! Wow Bob! You’ve got evidence on your show!

  10. Anya Black says:

Bob… I meant to say interesting. Not ingesting! lol.

  11. Linda Hirsch says:

I’m left almost speechless by the tremendous love and courage of this 6 yr old boy and his mother’s ability to forgive is an example to us all.

  12. carl says:

Thank you, a beautiful and amazing story

  13. Laurie says:

My son Jesse was killed October of 2012 by a negligent driver, she is on trial now. We had MANY premonitions/foreknowledge & sychronicities: Three days before he was killed, my Jesse told me HIS LIFE WOULD BE SHORT. Several months before his death, a telepathic voice told me my son would die. An EKR grief counselor I had contact with had assisted at the Sandy Hook shootings & shared with me there were many children who had premonitions. Foreknowledge is a double-edged sword, grief a lone road. *EKR stands for an Elisabeth Kubler-Ross

    • Bob Olson says:

      Hi Laurie,

I’m very sorry for your son’s passing. Thank you for sharing. And I’m glad this interview resonated with you, as it has with many.

  14. joy says:

If every student and parent in every school in America (not to mention the rest of our world) could see and hear your interview with Scarlett in a classroom setting with questions and discussion after, we would be on the road to peace.
Love to Scarlett, her family and you too, Bob…..

  15. Linda Brown says:

Thank you Bob for all you do. What an inspiring show!

  16. Gary says:

I actually hesitated watching this wondering about the spiritual connection, plus it was longer than most of your other interviews. Wow, what a turn around! I was so engrossed in Scarlett’s story and message, the interview was over before I knew it. Stories like this make you more mindful of the things that happen in your life and make you less likely to put them off as coincidental or your mind playing tricks on you.

Another great interview, Bob. Keep ’em coming.

  17. Asher says:

sending big hug to you Scarlett. was amazing to learn from what you had to share

  18. Giamarie says:

  20. Christine Stone says:

Such an empowering interview. What an example of turning tradgedy into something positive to help so many.

  21. Marla says:

Bob- while I have enjoyed every one of your interviews this has to be the most inspirational one yet. The way Scarlett presents her experience and her take away from it is absolutely inspiring and gripping. I would love to spend a day with her and absorb more of her wonderful spirit and energy.

Scarlett highlights what we can each bring to everyone we meet- love and compassion. We all desperately need that, not only the children but also the adults. Thank you for uplifting and inspiring.

  22. JOHN says:

My heart goes out to Scarlett. i lost my wife of over forty years marriage three years ago. My second oldest grandson who was five at the time came around to see me. He sat down on the couch where my wife used to sit and then out of the blue he exclaimed ” NAN IS HERE ” Out of the mouth of babes, as they say. Young children are very sensitive to the death of loved ones and friends. Needless to say the psychic activity in that house then was phenomenal. God Bless John.

  23. john says:

I am sorry for your loss Scarlett. I am glad that your son has contacted you . It must be a great comfort to you and also to other people who have lost loved ones.

  24. Jeanna says:

Thank you for this. I really enjoyed listening to her, and can’t wait to get her book! She was articulate and I loved her message of forgiveness.

  25. Janet Rostad says:

For some time now, I’ve wondered if the souls at Sandy Hook got together before birth to show us how serious gun violence is in our society. I am, however, very disappointed that nothing seems to have changed after this awful incident.
